Nokia (Microsoft) has put up a teaser image on its official blog with the tagline ‘Green with Envy.’ The image shows the back of a handset with a colour similar to the vibrant Lumia 630 shells and a date that points to a launch event on June 24.
While many suspect it’s the launch of the Nokia X2, which clearly did not do well in India, we think that it is more to do with the long-rumoured successor of the Lumia 520 smartphone, the Lumia 530.
Nokia clearly seems to be getting some pleasure about confusion that the image and the tagline causes. The last time around the company went around teasing the colour ‘green’ was when the Nokia X was about to be launched.
Clearly the colour has nothing to do with just the Nokia X, since the next device to sport the same green colour was the Lumia 630 along with a special green Lumia 1520, which Stephen Elop showed up with at the Windows Phone 8.1 announcement.
Then there is the Nokia Lumia 530 which had surfaced online a month ago. This is our next best guess, for two reasons. One reason is that it really makes more sense for Nokia to launch another budget version of the 630 to compete with the likes of Motorola and now Micromax, than launching a X2. The Lumia 530 would stack up perfectly against the Moto E and could also deliver better value than the Canvas Win W092 out here in India. Secondly it’s high time that Microsoft announced the Lumia Cyan update, which for now is available only on the Lumia 630/635 and the Lumia 930 worldwide.
Still then, the clock on Nokia’s blog is ticking and in 3 days we will know the truth.
