Businesses and brands that rely on Tumblr should tread carefully this morning. Many news outlets are reporting that an infectious worm is spreading across the bloggingplatform, affecting several major blogs.
According to The Next Web, the worm seems to be infecting any account that reblogs a post from the GNAA, a well-known anti-blogging hacker group.
So far, more than 8,600 Tumblr members have been affected, including USA Today and CNET. It’s recommended that you avoid visiting Tumblr blogs until the issue is resolved. If you must, don’t click on any GNAA posts — doing so will result in your blog being affected.
Tumblr is aware of the issue and is already working on a fix. If your blog has been infected, Gizmodo recommends going into the Tumblr mass editor, deleting the bad posts, and refreshing. And although there’s no evidence that the GNAA has accessed your account, we recommend changing your password to be safe.
Several media outlets have reached out to Tumblr for more information. We’ll keep you updated as more details are released.
