Indian phone manufacturer Micromax has released a budget smartphone named A68 Smarty. As is the trend with most entry-level devices these days, this one also comes with dual-SIM (GSM) functionality. It's powered by 1 GHz CPU, and has 512 MB of RAM. The handset packs in a 5 mp fixed focus camera with a single LED flash. But the USP of the device has to be its 4" IPS screen, which isn't something you see on many low-cost phones. The A68 runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) out of the box, which is good thing. However, looking at the specs, I'm not sure that the CPU is enough to run the UI smoothly. Here's what the spec list for the handset looks on its product page:
- 4" IPS display with pixel dimensions of 480 x 800.
- Android 4.0.4 (ICS).
- Dual-SIM GSM (900, 1800 MHz), Lacks 3G.
- 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM.
- 5 mp fixed focus camera with LED flash.
- Bluetooth 3.0 , Wi-FI, Lacks GPS.
- 2 GB internal storage, MicroSD card slot (Supports up to 32 GB).
- Micro-USB 2.0, 3.5 mm jack, FM radio.
- 1600 mAh battery.
- Package Contents: USB, Charger, Earphones.
The Micromax A68 Smarty is available online for Rs 6500, making it slightly expensive than the similarly spec'd Karbonn A15. However, as mentioned earlier, the A68's IPS screen should give it a much-needed edge over competition in this already crowded market space.
