Logitech's Z5500 has had a very good run, going strong for almost seven to eight years now. Logitech has never, until now, bothered bringing out a replacement since despite its age, the Z5500 continued to be one of the best 5.1 channel PC speaker systems in the market and were aspirational back in the day as not everyone could afford them.

Finally, after all these years, Logitech has announced a successor to the Z5500 called the Z906. It which will hit retail stores in U.S for a suggested retail price of $349.99 (Rs.16,000). This is the current pricing for the Z5500 but remember, it took almost seven years for that to happen. The Z906 will definitely be launched at a price tag above 20K in India and then we play the waiting game for it to drop.

The design has undergone a major overhaul especially the satellite speakers and the control pod. The satellites no longer have the annoying stand which made wall mounting a real nightmare. The control pod has shed its LCD display and the connectivity options in the rear; now all the connectors plug directly into the sub-woofer. The remote has been redesigned as well and is a lot simpler. The THX certified system still pumps out 500W RMS power and retains the Dolby Digital and DTS decoding capabilities.

If you've just bought a Z5500 setup then don't be sad as the new one doesn't really offer anything new other than the design. If you were planning on picking one up though, you might want to wait out a bit and get these if the pricing is reasonable, else just try and get a good bargain for the old ones.
