If you thought 50GB on a blu-ray disc was super-awesome, wait until you see what the Blu-ray Association (BDA) is pulling up their sleeve in a few months! The BDA has announced the introduction of the BDXL (we're assuming XL for eXtra Large) and the IH-BD (Intra-Hybrid discs) formats.
Initially targeted for the commercial sector, BDXL goes all the way up to 128GB. That's more data than what 27 regular DVDs can hold! This could be really helpful to people and organizations who juggle with large amounts of data at a time. BDA has said that eventually this technology will come to home users too.
The second, IH-BD is a single blu-ray disc having one 25GB layer that can be written once, and another 25GB layer which can be re-written. So, the IH-BD blu-ray could be sold with pre-loaded content, and the re-writable space can be used for something that most of us can't possibly imagine at this point.
