The buzz surrounding Motorola isn’t dying anytime soon, at least not here in India. The ex-Google owned company has officially priced the Moto G smartphone in India. The 8GB version is aggressively priced at Rs.12,499 (~$200), while the 16GB version is priced atRs.13,999 (~$225). Though many were hoping Motorola to price this aggressively, not many were banking on a sub-15k price for the 16GB version. The phone will be sold exclusively on Flipkart for an undisclosed number of days to start with.

Moto G was launched back in November last year in Brazil, US and some European countries. Back then, Motorola had promised to bring the budget android smartphone to India in Jan 2014. As we reported sometime back, Motorola had some issues striking a deal with offline retailers and hence they decided to team up with Flipkart and others to have an online-only launch.
In markets like India, sub-15k segment has some serious competition, but mostly had Indo-Chinese brands like Micromax, Gionee, Lava/XOLO and Karbonn competing with each other. Bigger brands like Samsung, HTC and Sony have just a couple of insignificant models in this range. Arrival of Moto G should seriously topple the market share in this price segment. Moreover, the Indian version of Moto G comes with Dual-SIM support.

Those looking at the specs alone might wonder what the hype is all about. In fact many local brands have models with better specs. But Moto G has garnered some rave reviews owing to a stupendous battery life, coupled with lag-free user experience. Also, Motorola surprised many with real fast OS updates to both Moto X and Moto G, and promises to keep up this trend in the near future. In the US, the 8GB model of Moto G is priced at $179, while the 16GB is priced at $199.

Flipkart has lined up some exciting offers for those willing to place the order on day 1 of the launch (which is tomorrow, February 6th), including a chance to get 100% cashback and discounts on eBooks, clothes and Moto G covers.
