In most situations, you probably want your iPhone to rotate every time you tilt the phone over. But, in some unique situations (like when you’re laying in bed), auto rotate can quickly become something that annoys you. Thankfully, with the iPhone you have a way of easily disabling this feature:

  1. Double tap the home button on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll to the left (you should see the music/ipod controls).
  3. Press the button to the left (that is a circular arrow) to disable auto rotate.
When you first press the circular arrow button, you should get a message at the bottom saying “portrait orientation locked.” You’ll also see a lock icon up in the notification bar. To re-enable auto rotate, simply do the same steps above but press the circular arrow button so it says “portrait orientation unlocked.”
